The Algoma Central Railway operates regular Passenger Service between our depot in Sault Ste. Marie and our northern terminus, 296 miles to the north, in Hearst, Ontario. Our rail line runs through the heart of 22,000 square miles of recreational wilderness called Algoma Country and provides access to numerous lakes and rivers, private camps and cottages and a variety of Wilderness Lodges. In many cases the Railway is the only means of access to this remote region.

We operate our Passenger Trains on Summer Service and Winter Service schedules. Our Summer and Winter Service provides three Northbound and three Southbound trains with trains going NORTH; Thursday, Saturday and Monday and SOUTH; Friday, Sunday and Tuesday. IMPORTANT PASSENGER INFORMATION
The following information is provided for your guidance and understanding of rules and regulations governing the handling of baggage and/or express in baggage car service on our passenger trains.

Past practice has indicated that some passengers are unaware of these rules and that others have attempted to circumvent the paying of express or excess baggage charges by concealing goods offered for transportation. Concealment is illegal under the Railway Act, section 379 and could prove hazardous to the safety of passengers, particularly if said concealment involves dangerous commodities. Railway Agents and/or Train Baggagemen as Company representatives, have the right to inspect any doubtful items of baggage when camouflaging is suspected.

BAGGAGE
Tariff rules define baggage as: wearing apparel and personal effects for the wear, use, comfort and convenience of the passenger for the purposes of the journey and not intended for other persons or for sale.

Up to 100 lbs. may be checked on an adult ticket and up to 50 lbs. on a Student ticket free of charges. All shipments over 200 lbs., must be prearranged with Passenger Sales.

Some additional personal articles such as bedrolls, groceries, beer, portable Coleman camp stoves and/or lamps, skis and toboggans may be checked at owner's risk and included in the above weight limit free of charge.

A reasonable amount of Hand Baggage including fishing rods, tackle boxes, unloaded firearms (encased), may be carried into the coach with the passenger.

EXPRESS BAGGAGE
Items such as pets, canoes, bicycles, outboard motors, ATV's, snowmobiles, motorcycles, boats under 14 ft., sleighs and trailers must be handled as Express Baggage using the designated Express Baggage tariffs. All shipments of snowmobiles, ATV's, boats etc. must be prearranged with Passenger Sales. The following list of items must be handled as Express for which shipping charges apply:

• gasoline
• liquefied petroleum (propane) and propane cylinders (full or empty)
• groceries (not for personal use of the passenger)
• boats and canoes
• fish and game
• power saws
• building materials
• furniture or anything that becomes a permanent part of a camp
• batteries and tires
• power ice augers

Baggage must be enclosed in proper receptacles, securely bound, and each item must have an identification tag or marking on same with destination. There are limited liabilities in connection with the above baggage services. Full detailed regulations are contained in the tariffs of the Railway Company and may be seen on request. The Railway company assumes no liability for baggage other than as specified in its tariffs published and filed pursuant to law.

DANGEROUS COMMODITIES
Rules and regulations laid down by the Canada Transportation Agency prohibit the handling of dangerouscommodities in passenger cars. (Please contact agent regarding self propelled vehicles).

It is illegal and extremely dangerous to pack and conceal hazardous materials in plastic bags, cardboard cartons, pack sacks, or containers as checked baggage or to carry them on board. Some of these items may be transported in Express Service provided they are in approved containers and bear proper identification tags as required by regulations prescribed by the Canada Transportation Agency. These include:

• GASES: liquefied petroleum (propane) compressed gases. Empty propane - acetylene and oxygen cylinders, scuba tanks, gas drums, etc.
• CORROSIVES: Acids, cleaners, wet cell batteries, etc.
• FLAMMABLE LIQUIDS: Gasoline, naptha gas, paints, thinners, camp fuels (Coleman fuel), etc.

THE REGULATIONS COVERING THESE ITEMS ARE FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY! CONCEALING OR ATTEMPTING TO CONCEAL THESE GOODS ABOARD A PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION VEHICLE IS AN OFFENCE UNDER THE RAILWAY ACT FOR WHICH VIOLATION CHARGES MAY BE LAID BY THE PROPER OFFICER.

NO SMOKING POLICY
Effective Monday, July 4, 2005 the Regular Passenger Train (Trains 631 & 632) providing service to Hearst and Return will become Smoke-Free.

Government legislation (Part 2 of the Canada Labour Code) prohibits smoking in all federally regulated workplaces. The primary goal of this legislation is to protect the health and welfare of all non-smokers from environmental tobacco smoke.

All employees and passengers are required to respect the provisions of this legislation and refrain from smoking onboard the train. Should the company be fined, the dollar value of said fine will be passed on to the person violating this government legislation.
